Welcome to LanzaroteOn arrival at César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport near Arrecife, your French- or English-speaking guide welcomes you before a private coach transfer to your hotel.
Lanzarote immediately stands out for its mineral landscapes, white-house villages and volcanic terrain. The island was profoundly transformed by the great eruptions of the 18th century, which covered part of its territory with lava and ash.
After checking into your rooms, an introduction to the week’s programme and free time to rest or take a first stroll beside the sea.
Meals: dinner.
Guatiza · Cactus Garden · Cueva de los Verdes · Jameos del AguaAfter breakfast, head to Guatiza, a northeastern village surrounded by prickly pear fields. These crops were once used to breed cochineal, an insect that produces a natural red dye.
Visit the Cactus Garden, César Manrique’s last major creation in Lanzarote. Set in a former volcanic ash quarry, the garden holds hundreds of cactus and succulent species from different regions of the world. The restored windmill overlooking the site recalls the island’s agricultural past.
Continue to Cueva de los Verdes, a section of the long volcanic tunnel formed by the eruption of the La Corona volcano. Moving underground, discover galleries, vaults and solidified lava flows that explain how Lanzarote’s subsurface was formed.
After lunch, visit Jameos del Agua. A “jameo” is a section of volcanic tunnel whose ceiling has collapsed. César Manrique transformed this natural place into a cultural space combining water, rock, vegetation and architecture. The underground lake is home to tiny blind albino crabs, now one of Lanzarote’s symbols.
Return to the hotel in the late afternoon, dinner and overnight stay.
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Timanfaya · El Golfo · Los Hervideros · La GeriaHead south for a day devoted to Lanzarote’s most spectacular volcanic landscapes.
An optional dromedary ride may be offered in the Parque de los Camellos area. This activity recalls the historical importance of dromedaries, once used by local people to transport harvests and work volcanic land.
Visit the Timanfaya National Park, created to protect the Fire Mountains and vast lava fields resulting from the eruptions of 1730 to 1736. The coach route crosses craters, volcanic bombs and solidified flows where vegetation remains scarce. Geothermal demonstrations show that heat remains very close to the surface.
Lunch in the park area, then continue to El Golfo, a small fishing village known for Charco de los Clicos. This green lagoon occupies part of an old crater open to the ocean; its colour comes from microorganisms in the water.
Stop at Los Hervideros, volcanic cliffs carved by marine erosion. When the sea is rough, waves rush into the lava cavities, making the ocean appear to boil.
The day ends in La Geria, Lanzarote’s main wine-growing region. Vines are planted in pits dug into volcanic ash and protected by small stone walls. This method retains moisture and shelters the vines from the wind. Tasting of local wines before returning to the hotel.
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Teguise · Sunday market · Mirador del RíoAfter breakfast, head to Teguise, Lanzarote’s former capital until the 19th century. Its historic centre preserves white houses, courtyards, convents and stately homes that testify to its political and religious importance.
When the visit takes place on a Sunday, discover Teguise market, the island’s best-known market. Its streets fill with stalls selling crafts, local products, clothing and Canarian specialities, in an atmosphere enlivened by music and folk performances.
Free time to explore the centre’s streets before continuing to Mirador del Río, created by César Manrique in the Famara cliff. The architecture is almost invisible from outside to preserve the landscape.
From the large windows and terraces, enjoy an exceptional view of La Graciosa, the El Río strait, the northern salt flats and the islets of the Chinijo archipelago.
Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Meals: breakfast and dinner. Lunch according to the selected meal plan.
Arrecife · Monumento al Campesino · César Manrique FoundationFree morning to enjoy the hotel or surroundings, then head to Arrecife, Lanzarote’s capital since the 19th century. Its development is linked to maritime trade and its natural port protected by reefs.
A panoramic discovery of the city, its quays and principal landmarks, including the Charco de San Ginés area, a former small fishing port now surrounded by houses, terraces and restaurants.
Continue to Monumento al Campesino, located at the island’s geographical centre. César Manrique designed this complex to honour Lanzarote’s farmers, who cultivate land with little water and covered in volcanic ash. The white buildings take inspiration from traditional rural architecture.
After lunch, visit the César Manrique Foundation, housed in the artist’s former home in Tahíche. The house is built above a lava flow and uses several natural volcanic bubbles as underground rooms. Discover his works, influences and commitment to protecting Lanzarote’s landscapes.
Return to the hotel at the end of the day.
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Órzola · ferry · Caleta de Sebo · beachesAfter breakfast, transfer to Órzola, a small port in Lanzarote’s far north, then take the ferry to La Graciosa.
On arrival, discover Caleta de Sebo, the island’s main village. Its streets are covered in sand and the atmosphere remains very peaceful. White houses, the small port and fishing boats recall the traditional way of life on this sparsely populated island.
La Graciosa belongs to the Chinijo archipelago, a protected maritime area known for its desert-like landscapes, pale beaches and transparent waters.
Free time to stroll through the village, swim or enjoy the coast. Fish or seafood lunch in a local restaurant.
Return to Lanzarote in the afternoon. Depending on schedules, visit a farm growingaloe vera, a plant particularly well adapted to the island’s dry climate and used in many cosmetic products.
